No Slop Copy

The single tell that gives away AI writing is slop: delve, leverage, "it's worth noting," the em-dash rhythm, the fake-profound kicker. This skill installs a sharp editor that catches all of it. It works two ways: a standing rule in your CLAUDE.md so every draft comes out clean, and an on-demand deep scrub you trigger with "de-slop this" on any piece.

Who it's for

Marketers, founders, and anyone who writes with Claude and wants it to stop sounding like a robot.

What you get

  • A CLAUDE.md rule block that keeps every draft slop-free by default, with the full banned-words and banned-phrases list.
  • A reusable no-slop skill with two modes: EDIT rewrites a draft clean, DETECT names the patterns without touching your voice.
  • The 28-pattern checklist behind it: binary contrasts, throat-clearing openers, colon reveals, chatbot residue, unsolicited reassurance, em-dash abuse, and the rest.
  • One paste sets up both in Claude Code and Claude Cowork. No config, no dependencies.

Set up a "No AI Slop" writing system for me. Do both steps:

STEP 1: Add this section to my CLAUDE.md memory file (use ~/.claude/CLAUDE.md if this is Claude Code, or my Cowork folder's CLAUDE.md if this is Cowork; create the file if it doesn't exist):

## No AI Slop (applies to everything you write)

Every piece of writing (emails, docs, posts, Slack, notes, drafts) follows this. Catch yourself doing any of these, stop and rewrite. For a full scrub of a specific draft, use the no-slop skill.

- Never these words: delve, foster, leverage, utilize, facilitate, empower, streamline, robust, seamless, cutting-edge, paradigm shift, game changer, tapestry, realm, beacon, pivotal, multifaceted, meticulous, intricate...

  1. v1.3Jul 29, 2026
    • Ran an exhaustive research pass against the peer-reviewed excess-vocabulary study, Wikipedia's signs-of-AI-writing, and the major overused-word lists.
    • Added chatbot residue (the clearest paste-from-AI evidence): 'as an AI language model,' 'I hope this helps,' 'let me know if you need anything else,' 'based on the information provided.'
    • Added peer-study words (comprehensive, crucial, enhance) and AI flourishes (vibrant, captivating, interplay, kaleidoscope, symphony, treasure trove), plus 'sheds light on,' 'navigating the complexities of,' 'gone are the days.'
    • New patterns: chatbot residue, Title Case headings, bold lead-in list items, 'not only X but also Y.' The checklist is now 28 patterns.
  2. v1.2Jul 29, 2026
    • Caught the newest tell: unsolicited reassurance ('You're not alone,' 'You're not imagining it,' 'You're not broken'), the therapy-speak the model injects.
    • Added the 2026 vogue word 'quiet' (as in 'a quiet confidence') as a pattern, plus documented AI words: showcase, unveil, nuanced, garner, and the phrase 'aligns with.'
    • Two new patterns (unsolicited reassurance, vogue intensifiers). The checklist is now 24 patterns.
  3. v1.1Jul 27, 2026
    • Added AI-overused words documented in the excess-vocabulary research: boast, testament, underscore, myriad, plethora, nestled, reimagine.
    • Added AI connective tissue (moreover, furthermore, additionally, notably) and filler phrases (a testament to, in today's digital age, it's no secret that).
    • One new pattern: AI connective tissue. The checklist is now 22 patterns.
  4. v1.0Jul 24, 2026
    • First release: the anti-slop editor skill, the CLAUDE.md standing rule, and the full 21-pattern checklist.
